Mets pitcher Matt Harvey, who underwent Tommy John surgery 11 months ago, has been told he will not be allowed to throw 100 percent this season, according to the New York Daily News.

Kristie Ackert writes that the 25 year old New London native will have 3 more bullpen sessions before being shut down for the rest of the year. The Mets front office staff are so adamant he doesn’t throw full speed, Ackert says they plan on bringing a radar gun to one of the sessions to make sure he doesn’t.  Harvey went 9-5 with a 2.27 ERA last year before he injured his elbow requiring the surgery. Normally rehabilitation for an injury like Harvey’s takes between 12 to 18 months.

Back in Connecticut, the 25 year old pitched for Fitch Senior High School in Groton. In college he pitched for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was later drafted by the New York Mets in the 1st round (7th pick) of the 2010 amateur draft.
