UPDATE: The New Britain Rock Cats will be affiliated with the Colorado Rockies according to a statement issued by the team.

Mayor Erin Stewart issued a statement:

“For nearly 20 years, New Britain has hosted the Minnesota Twins AA affiliate. While it is unfortunate they now feel compelled to cut those ties, I am relieved to hear that the Colorado Rockies AA affiliate may call New Britain home in the 2015 season. Between our fans, our facilities, and our willingness to work with ownership, this City has proven that a minor league ball club can be very successful right here in New Britain. We thank the Twins for their partnership over the years and we would welcome the Rockies organization to Hard Hittin’ New Britain!”

Rock Cats Managing Partner Josh Solomon said:

“We are excited to have a new Major League partnership with the Colorado Rockies and thrilled that they will be part of the Rock Cats exciting future,” remarked  “The Rockies have the same values that are important to the Rock Cats in community service and also have done a great job in player development and winning at the minor league level,”

The Colorado Rockies was affiliated with the New Haven Ravens from 1994-1998.

The Minnesota Twins have severed ties with the New Britain Rock Cats,  according to the Saint Paul Pioneer Press. The City of New Britain and the Twins have had a partnership for the past 19 years.

The Twins can still negotiate with the Rock Cats’ owners on a  two year contract.

According to the Saint Paul Pioneer Press there are at least six other cities looking for a Double-A minor league baseball team.

The Twins have until the end of the month to select a Double-A partner.

Josh Solomon, Managing Partner, New Britain Rock Cats released a statement that said:

“Per Major League Baseball Guidelines, the Player Development Contract cannot be discussed publicly until a final deal is reached. Rest assured, the Rock Cats will have a Double-A Major League affiliate playing in New Britain next April.”

Thank you the Solomon family! Your greed has lost a great family entertainment venue for all of us. We have faithfully supported and enjoyed our NB Rock Cats since Joe Buzas kept the franchise here years ago when he and his team were being courted by many other cities. He recognized the community support here for the team and decided to reward that support. You, the Solomons, have destroyed that.
