Joe Thompson, a 22-year-old who has cerebral palsy, is set on competing in this year's Manchester Road Race despite his disorder.

Thompson and his friend Michael Ingram, 27, ran the race together last year, with Ingram pushing Thompson to the finish line in just 37 minutes. Because Thompson can't walk, the pair had to borrow a special race wheelchair to compete.

"It's a specialty made pushing chair basically for adults," Ingram said. " It allows me to push him in any race."

Already donors have pitched in to get Joe to the starting line; nearly $700 has been sent to fund Joe's cause as of 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19.

Ingram added, "Whatever race he wants to do, I'll go out and do it. If he has the chair, I'll be out there pushing."
