UPDATE: Former state Sen. Len Suzio, a major critic of the state’s early release from prison program, sent out a statement saying that Alton Mac Youngs was released from prison early because he participated in risk reduction credits. Youngs was released from prison on June 4, though that is only 33 days earlier than his planned release, meaning he would have been out of prison by the time of this crime regardless.

Meriden police are investigating a shooting on Center Street that occurred Saturday, Sept. 27.

Police responded to Center Street at 7:20 pm on reports of shots fired.  A 18-year old woman was transported to Midstate Medical Center with a gun shot wound to her leg.  Police say the victims injuries are non life threatening.

Authorities say the incident appears to be an altercation between two acquaintances and is not random.

On Friday, Oct. 3 police released a wanted poster for Alton Mac Youngs, 20, of Meriden.
