The flu season generally runs from October through May in Connecticut, with a peak in January or February, according to Michelle Caul, the manager of health education at the American Lung Association.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says there's no way to predict how bad the flu season will be, or if new virus strands may appear. But for now, the concern is how fast doctors will be able to get shipments of flu vaccines to administer to patients.

Though Caul insists there is not a vaccine shortage, it does seem that those trying to get ahead of the game may have to sit and wait. But, since peak flu season isn't until at least January, it's not a huge issue for patients to wait until October or November to be vaccinated. In fact, before the past few years, the flu vaccine wasn't typically available until October.

The CDC estimates that drug manufacturers will produce 150 million doses of the flu vaccine this year.
