Waterbury police are investigating after a man was shot several times Sunday evening.

Police said the shooting happened at an apartment complex at 3 Gayridge Road in Waterbury around 8 p.m.

A 52 year-old man was shot several times while walking to his car from his apartment. He was transported by ambulance to Saint Mary’s Hospital where he later died.

At this time police do not have a suspect in custody.

A witness, Robert Neyland, described what he heard, “I heard one shot ring out and I looked outside my window and I heard five more shots so I told my wife to get down and take cover and I had ran to my second bedroom to peek out the window to see what was going on and that was it about a short time after I saw a car take off.”
