Bridgeport firefighters responded to a boat fire at the Dolphin Cove Marina on Sunday morning.

Bridgeport Fire responded to the call around 2:45 a.m. at 421 Seaview Avenue. When firefighters arrived on scene they found a 26-foot boat that was fully engulfed in flames.

Fire officials also observed a barge that was off-loading fuel at the dock about 500 feet away from the boat.

During the fire, the fuel tanks on the boat split and released about 190 gallons of fuel on top of the water. The fuel ignited causing large flames on top of the water.

Firefighters battled the blaze from the dock using hand lines as well as using a department boat.

“The crews did a tremendous job to hold the fire to just one boat while working in a dangerous environment on the docks,” said Assistant Chief William Hathaway.

The boat was destroyed and one other vessel received minor damage. There were no injuries associated with this incident.
