State police are awaiting autopsy results on 31-year-old Lashano Gilbert, who died on Saturday after twice being tasered by New London Police.

On Saturday, New London Police arrested Gilbert for an attempted carjacking. Officers say they were forced to taser Gilbert because he was resisting arrest, yelling incoherently and claiming to hear voices.

Gilbert was taken to L&M Hospital in New London, treated in the emergency room and taken back to the New London Police Department for processing.

Police say Gilbert continued behaving violently and attacked police officers inside the station's booking room. That's when officers tasered him a second time. Gilbert was again transported to the hospital, but became unresponsive in the ambulance. He was pronounced dead in the emergency room.

The State Police Eastern District Major Crime Squad has gathered evidence and conducted interviews. The case remains open and active. The Office of the Chief States Medical Examiner began an autopsy Sunday to determine the manner and cause of death. The results of that autopsy are pending.
