(MyFox8) – Earlier this year, Jenna Gassew and Dan Haley created a bucket list for their unborn child expected to have a brief life. At 2:25 a.m. Thursday morning, Shane Michael Haley was born.
At 6:15 a.m., “after meeting his entire family and being baptized into the Catholic faith,” Shane died peacefully in his mother’s arms.
Shane had anencephaly, a rare, complex brain condition. Jenna and Dan knew Shane would not live long after he was born.
“Baby Shane is here!! .. Mom and Baby are doing well! .. more details and pictures to come!” – the couple shared on the Prayers for Shane Facebook page early Thursday.
After Shane passed away, the family posted on Facebook:
“We are so grateful for the time that we were blessed to hold and hug our son .. the support and prayers we have received from all of you have been amazing and we want to thank each of you with all our hearts .. Shane spent his entire life in the arms of people that loved him unconditionally and I don’t think you could ask for a more beautiful life then that .. he is home now with the Lord and will forever be our little miracle!”
The life expectancy of babies with the condition ranges from hours to days. So the couple wanted Shane to experience as much as he could while still in the womb.
The couple decided to put together a bucket list, taking Shane on adventures and to some of their favorite childhood places before he was born.
The adventures and photos are all posted on the Prayers for Shane Facebook page. It has more than 650,000 followers.
