Two people exchanging gunfire turned into New Haven police firing gunshots of their own.

It happened just before 10 P.M. Thursday night in front of 14 Judson Avenue. At least two people involved fled from the detectives in a silver Dodge Charger with a partial Pennsylvania registration of ‘JGG’.

Detectives chased the Dodge to Winthrop Avenue near Gilbert Street, where a passenger fled from the car on foot. Police say, the man on the run turned toward detectives and fired several shots from a handgun. The detectives were not struck. A pursuing detective returned fire.

West Haven Police Officers have also been searching for the suspect in the areas close to the Ella T. Grasso Boulevard and Marginal Drive.

If anyone has any information on this investigation, calls can be made anonymously to Detectives at 203-946-6304.
