Workers at AmeriCares in Stamford are preparing to send out supplies to help fight Ebola in West Africa.

The Connecticut-based medical and surgical product company is expected to ship 12,000 bottles of bleach to Sierra Leone and Libera on Wednesday morning.

The bleach will be used for disinfecting protective equipment, washing hands and sanitizing Ebola treatment centers.

This is AmeriCare's ninth shipment of supplies to West Africa this year, worth more than $1 million in aid.

The company has already sent tens of thousands of protective masks, gowns, bio-hazard bags and protective shoe covers.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warns that as many as 1.4 million people in Liberia and Sierra Leone could contract Ebola by January if more is not done to stop the virus from spreading.

More than 8,000 people worldwide have already become infected.
