MANCHESTER- Four teens were taken to local hospitals Wednesday afternoon during the Central Connecticut Cross-Country Conference Championship at Wickham Park. High school runners from various schools were running in multiple cross-country events.
Manchester fire and rescue was called in for a runner in distress, but they found several runners in distress after crossing the finish line.
Four teens were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening heat and possibly asthma-related issues. One adult spectator was also taken to the hospital.
The meet continued despite the injuries.
The Manchester Fire Chief says unusually high temperatures and humidity contributed to the incident.
