In 2011, Matt Ficarra was paralyzed in a boating accident, but on Oct. 18 he walked down the aisle at his wedding.

The boating accident broke his neck, paralyzing him from the chest down, according to Buzzfeed. About six months after the accident, he reconnected with a girl he had known in college, Jordan Basile.

When the couple got engaged in December 2013, Ficarra decided he wouldn’t use his wheelchair to get down the aisle, he would walk.

Ficarra learned about a rehab program in Pennsylvania that helped people walk using an Ekso, an electronic robotic device. He drove 7 hours a week every week since March just to walk for less than an hour, according to his YouCaring page.

On Saturday, he achieved his goal and married the love of his life, while standing up.

Ficarra hopes to someday use an Ekso at home, despite a cost of more than $100,000. You can check out his fundraising page here.

Congrats to the Newlyweds!
