For Elizabeth Shulman, life has come full circle. "Growing up, I was overweight," says this native of East Hampton, now 32, who felt ostracized and isolated, which all led to depression. "In middle school, I ended-up dealing with the emotional pain by cutting." During her freshman year at UCONN, she started therapy, as she attended a class called Intro to Family Studies. "The two just fit together and I knew that I wanted to be a therapist so that I could help teenagers navigate the rough waters of adolescence," she says. Now, Shulman, a licensed marriage and family therapist, is partnered with the Community Foundation of Middlesex County's Campaign for Bully-Free Communities, committed to opening eyes and creating change.
