MIDDLEFIELD – Police took a Middletown man into custody for driving under the influence for after they said he struck a pedestrian Monday night.
State Police said Jackie Cunningham, 59 of Middletown, was driving west on Meriden Road shortly past Peters Lane, when he struck Claudia Reed, 56 of Middletown, who was walking east on the side of the road.
Reed was taken to Hartford Hospital by Lifestar with serious injuries to her legs and head according to police.
Police said Cunningham failed a field sobriety test and was charged with operating under the influence. He was released after posting bond.
