BRIDGEPORT – Jason Martinez, the Hartford firefighter injured in a fire this month, has been released from Bridgeport Hospital.

A spokesperson for the hospital said Martinez was released Thursday morning.

Martinez, 29, was in critical condition for weeks after sustaining burns to more than 10 percent of his body in a Hartford fire on Oct. 7 that killed fellow firefighter Kevin Bell.

Martinez is a dedicated firefighter, and in 2011 Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra praised him and six others for extraordinary acts during a fire on Cleveland Avenue in Hartford’s Northeast end.

Martinez was searching a burning home on Blue Hills Avenue on Tuesday night when he was forced to jump out of a second-story window, according to a letter written by the president of the Hartford Firefighter’s Association.
