Both the challenger and the incumbent cast their votes early Tuesday for what has shaped up to be one of the tightest races for governor in the country.

Republican candidate Tom Foley cast his vote at the Glenville Elementary School in Greenwich. He spoke to supporters afterward and thanked them for their efforts. Foley was joined last night by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie at a rally. Christie has been a frequent visitor to the state on behalf of the GOP candidate.

The race everyone will be watching today is the race for Governor, the neck and neck battle between incumbent Democratic Gov. Dan Malloy and Republican challenger Tom Foley. Independent candidate Joe Visconti also appears on the ballot.  Polls have fluctuated throughout campaign season, but polls within the last week show the race is still very close. When Malloy, the former Mayor of Stamford, faced off against the Greenwich businessman in 2010, Malloy won by just 6,404 votes.

When Quinnipiac University Poll began surveying voters about the race for Governor, Foley was leading Malloy by six percent. But the most recent four polls over the past 30 days have shown a very close race.

A Quinnipiac poll just released yesterday shows Malloy leading by one percent. The Poll recalculated the results if Visconti was not on the ballot, and Malloy would have 47 percent to Foley’s 44 percent.
