ROCKY HILL–Elizabeth Smart, the woman who made national headlines when she was abducted in 2002 from her home in Salt Lake City, appeared in Rocky Hill today.

Smart brought her nationwide lecture, “Overcoming Adversity,” to Connecticut to discuss her experiences with violence and how she overcame and recovered from the adversity. Her hope is to give hope to other facing their own challenges.

She was rescued nine months after the kidnapping, and in recent years has become a public figure and activist for the Internet Crimes Against Children task force and an advocate for educating children about violent and sexual crimes.

Smart also wrote a book recounting her harrowing experience called “My Story.”
