MERIDEN–A Meriden family is celebrating tonight after their stolen dog was found.

On Sunday the Daniels’ home was broken into in the middle of the night, and their 19-week-old pitbull, Miyah, was taken. Monday night Miyah was found in a basement in a house a few blocks away from the Daniels’ home. Police are trying to determine how the dog ended up where she was found.

“Ashley is completely heartbroken, she has seen this dog as her baby,” said Carla Daniels, Ashley’s mother, before the family reunited with the dog.

Miyah, a female pitbull, belongs to 17-year-old Ashley Daniels, but her family  became equally attached to Miyah. The family takes turns caring for the puppy since she has a series of health problems requiring around the clock care.

“Miyah has become part of the family to us from Ashley bottle feeding her up to until the last day she was with us,” said Carla.

Daniels says her other 14-year-old daughter was sleeping in the home, and when she woke up she noticed the pup was missing. “She woke up around 4:30 a.m. and realized Miyah wasn’t in the bed with her any longer,” Carla said.

Carla believes someone who knows the family stole the pup, along with a Playstation 3 and a laptop.

The family got the puppy as a rescue when she was 3 weeks old.

A $500 to $1,000 reward was offered to anyone who has information that leads to an arrest or helps to find Miyah.

Anyone with information about this incident can call the Meriden Police Department at 203-630-6201.

Fox CT’s Mike Krafcik filed this report just before Miyah was found.
