NEW BRITAIN–Sen. Richard Blumenthal, Sen. Chris Murphy and Rep. Elizabeth Esty announced a new grant today that will help get long-term unemployed residents back to work.

The $6.7 million competitive grant from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Ready to Work Partnership program will go to North Central Connecticut’s Capital Workforce Partners to train 255 long-term unemployed residents and 55 incumbent workers. The training will be in the health care and health IT fields.

The grant was made possible by the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, which created more than 1,400 jobs annually.

The Ready to Work Partnership is a collaboration between companies, nonprofits and federal job training programs to help unemployed people find jobs.

Last month Blumenthal and Murphy announced that the CT Ready to Work Initiative–a joint venture by the Workforce Alliance and the Eastern CT Workforce Investment Board– had also received a Ready to Work Partnership grant for $5.5 million to train workers in IT, engineering and advanced manufacturing.
