If you’re looking to start a new diet plan don’t be too picky–a new study found that the brand of diet doesn’t seem to matter.

A research team in Montreal observed people on the Atkins, Zone, South Beach and Weight Watchers diets, and they found that none of those big names actually stood out from the pack when it came to lasting results

They said all four were  just modestly effective.  The researchers said that eating a low-fat diet on your own is just as effective for weight loss.

A doctor in Los Angeles has developed a baby monitor that could detect the early signs of  SIDS, or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, and it could reduce the number of those deaths by a much as 10 percent.

The device was created by doctor Ruey-Kang Chang at Harbor-UCLA’s Bio-Medical Institute.  It can measure a baby’s heartbeat like an electro-cardiogram and send the information back to the hospital.

The device is expected to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration sometime next year.

If you’re trying to quit smoking, try adding a little fish oil to your diet.  Researchers in Israel have found that fish oil can reduce cravings for cigarettes.  In the study, smokers who were given omega-3 capsules every day for a month cut their cigarette consumption by 11 percent.

Smoking is known to reduce the levels of essential fatty acids in the brain, especially that of omega-3.  A lack of omega-3 makes it hard for the smoker’s body to deal with cravings.
