WATERBURY--St. Joseph's Cemetery has been hit by vandals for the second time in three years, and police are still working on leads.

In 2011, nearly 300 gravesites were vandalized in the cemetery. Early Thursday morning it was discovered that 86 tombstones had been tipped, some of which were seriously damaged.

What was startling is how many headstones were tipped over so close to the front of the cemetery, which sits on the heavily traveled Hamilton Avenue, near Pearl Lake Road.

The foreman, who takes care of the grounds, says by the time they've gathered all the information and contacted as many families as possible it could be over a week.

In 2011's cemetery vandalism case, police arrested six individuals after one of them started speaking about it in public.
