FARMINGTON — A Hartford firefighter was arrested Thursday night and charged with DWI, Hartford fire officials said.

At 9:55 p.m. on Thursday, firefighter Jeffrey Vendetta was arrested by Farmington Police. In addition to the  DWI charge, he is also charged with evading responsibility and other motor vehicle charges.

Farmington police had responded to a two car accident near the ramp from Route 4 to I-84. It was reported that one vehicle struck another from behind and left the scene, leaving the other vehicle with heavy damage to the rear end. Witnesses followed the vehicle that caused the crash to Brickyard Road, four miles away according to police. When officers stopped the vehicle, which had front end damage, they took the driver Vendetta into custody for evading responsibility and driving under the influence.

According to police, the results of Vendetta’s breath test results of which were .2368  on the first test and  .2362 on the second.

He was immediately placed on administrative leave, with pay, pending the outcome of his case, Hartford fire officials said.

He will appear in court on November 19th.
