1.1M pounds of Auntie Anne’s, Nathan’s pretzel dogs recalled

NEW YORK (WPIX) — More than 1.1 million pounds of pretzel hot dogs, including those sold by Auntie Anne’s and Nathan’s, are being recalled because their boxes don’t warn consumers that the food contains a potentially life-threatening allergen.

City Line Foods Manufacturing Co., based in Lancaster, Penn., is recalling frozen pretzel hot dogs made between Feb. 1 and Nov. 14, and sold nationwide under the following labels, according to the USDA:

  • Auntie Anne’s All Beef Classic Pretzel Dogs
  • Auntie Anne’s Fundraising Pretzel Dogs
  • West Creek Black Angus Beef Pretzel Dogs
  • Kunzler Pretzel Dogs
  • Kunzler Turkey Pretzel Dogs
  • Berks All Beef Pretzel Franks
  • Nathan’s Famous Pretzel Dogs
  • City Line Foods Pretzel Dogs

Soy lecithin is the allergen in question, and its absence from the products’ boxes was found during a routine labeling review by the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the agency said.

The recalled products are labeled with the establishment number “EST. or P-34073” inside the USDA mark of inspection. Those labels are shown in the photo gallery above.

So far, there have been no illnesses or adverse reactions connected with the mislabeled food, but the FSIS said the products are no longer available for sale.

The recall does not affect pretzel dogs sold at Auntie Anne’s locations in malls, airports or other venues.
