Dashaun Bowes-Ware, 22, of New Haven, was taken into custody and said he armed himself after the teen threatened to shoot him after a fight over issues about a girl came up on Instagram. Police were able to confirm the that the teen threatened to shoot Bowes-Ware.
Bowes-Ware said the Ruger .380 wasn’t his, but said he did have and fire his own gun, a Sig Sauer P229 9mm handgun, and he told police where to find it. The teen said he only had a BB gun and that he’d gotten rid of it when he saw the officers. Officers couldn’t find the gun, and didn’t believe the teenager’s story.
The teen was taken to a juvenile detention center in Bridgeport, while Bowes-Ware was taken to Union Avenue Detention Center. Both were charged with criminal attempt to commit assault in the first degree, carrying a pistol without a permit, unlawful discharge of a firearm and reckless endangerment in the first degree.
