Identities released in fatal pedestrian accident in Cheshire

CHESHIRE–Police have released the identities of the driver and the victim from a fatal crash that occurred on Thursday, Nov. 20.

Ji Zheng Cai, 67, of Brooklyn, New York, was killed when a crash struck him as he tried to cross South Main Street. He was given medical attention at the scene and transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, but was then pronounced dead.

The driver of the car that hit Cai has been identified as Bonnie Winer, of Cheshire.

The accident occurred around 6:40 p.m.

No charges have been filed against Winer, but the Cheshire Police Traffic Division continues to investigate the incident.
