COLCHESTER -- It's getting colder outside, so critters are trying to move inside.
Mice are looking for warmth and food, so homes are easy targets.
Exterminators are therefore busy baiting and trapping the rodents both outside and inside houses and buildings. They say mice can fit through a 1/4-inch hole, including gaps around spigots or pipes and cables running into living spaces.
As Michael Sarnese, of Richland Pest & Bee Control, demonstrated while crouched in a crawl space, "I can stick probably two fingers in the hole that's going up into the house, so something like that is advantageous for mice to crawl right up."
Exterminators recommend using steel wool to plug holes so that mice can't chew through it.
