CHARLESTOWN, RI- At approximately 10 a.m. this morning, a young Harbor seal pup named Little Dipper was released at Blue Shutters after months of specialized care.

The young pup, a male approximately 7 months old, was rescued from Ogunquit, ME in July by Marine Mammals of Maine as an abandoned pup between 6 and 8 weeks old.  He was transferred to Mystic Aquarium for rehabilitation, where their Animal Rescue Team ensured he completed his medical treatments to achieve a full and strong recovery.

Upon his release today, Little Dipper weighted 50 lbs, more than doubling his 20 lbs weight when rescued.  He is the 16th seal that Mystic Aquarium’s Animal Rescue Program has rehabilitated and released in 2014 so far.
