WASHINGTON DC – Southern Connecticut State University President Mary Papazian will be at the White House Thursday along with other leaders to talk about increasing access to higher education.

Papazian is participating in the White House College Opportunity Day of Action. She will join President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and First Lady Michelle Obama at the event, along with hundreds of other college presidents and higher education leaders. Papazian said in a statement that she will talk about increasing college access, with the school’s efforts to boost STEM education.

College president’s who are participating were committing to work in one of four areas: Building college networks;  creating K-16 partnerships around college readiness; investing in high school counselors; and increasing the number of college graduates in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

President Obama is expected to announce funding in the amount of $10 million to help promote college completion, and a $30 million AmeriCorps program that will improve low-income students’ access to college.
