SIMSBURY–The Board of Selectmen voted to acknowledge First Selectman Mary Glassman’s resignation on Monday.

The board met to discuss the issue of Glassman’s resignation after her salary was cut by Republicans on the board. Glassman and Lisa Heavner, another selectman on the board who is a Democrat, recused themselves from the meeting, leaving Deputy First Selectman Nancy Haase to lead.

According to the Democratic registrar of voters of Simsbury, Sean Askham moved to make her resignation effective Jan. 2, 2015. All were in favor, and the motion passed.

A second motion was held to appoint Lisa Heavner, a Democratic selectman on the board, as the new first selectman. This motion passed as well.

Three Republican selectmen said they would reconsider cutting the first selectman’s salary mid-term.
