WINDSOR – A bus that skidded caused injuries to nine people and blocked traffic on I-91 during the morning commute. It was one of the many accidents caused by weather Tuesday morning.

The Department of Transportation and State Police have been responding to dozens of accidents on the state’s major interstates since Monday night.

Ambulances from Aetna and The Ambulance service of Manchester were called to the scene to assist Windsor Volunteer Ambulance at exit 38 A on I-91. The bus could be seen blocking two lanes of traffic and the car pool lane. The accident happened around 8:30 a.m. Aetna-ASM said four patients were transported to Hartford Hospital initially and another five were transported later.

 

In Farmington, High Street was closed from Mountain Road to Route 4 due to a downed power line. Drivers should use Route 10 instead.

Drivers experienced major backups on both sides of I-84 and I-91. Delays were heavy from Meriden to Cromwell on I-91.

A bus crashed into a fence in New Britain around 7:15 a.m. at St. Ann’s church parking lot. There were no injuries.

Problems were reported on I-91 Southbound at exits 40 and 38. Traffic started clearing by Exit 36.

Slow downs in the area of Hebron Avenue exit on Rt. 2 were reported.

The Capital Area ramp for exit 48 on I-84 westbound in Hartford was closed for a time due to icy conditions but has since reopened.

No major injuries have been reported. State Police advise drivers to be cautious driving this morning.

Slick roads in the Manchester area caused at least two accidents on I-384. Not far away a tractor-trailer had jack knifed on I-84 westbound near the exit for the Charter Oak Bridge. DOT reported the accident was cleared shortly after 7a.m.

I-691 was blocked due to an accident as well. Two accidents on I-91 in the Hamden area caused delays both north and south bound.
