MILFORD- The 2nd annual "Shop with a Cop" was a hit Wednesday night at the Target store in Milford, where more than 100 kids were each paired with a police officer for a shopping spree.
The first night was Tuesday in Southington, and the second night was Wednesday in Milford.
New Haven Police Officer Caitlin Zerella was paired with two girls: Angelica Rolon and Nyasia Downing. They whizzed through the aisles, riding in their carts and picking up dolls, clothing and jewelry along the way.
The night kicked off with a pre-party at the Bear & Grill Restaurant before a police-escorted procession to Target, with the cruiser lights flashing.
Next came a trip around the store with an officer. The kids were allowed to pick out pretty much whatever they wanted--within reason. The officers could also grab a gift for children back in the neighborhoods they patrol.
The event included 250 participants.
It also reminds officers of the kids in their communities.
"They were awesome," said New Haven Police Officer Caitlin Zerella. "These are my girls. We got our necklaces, we got a bunch of girl stuff--clothes, shoes, it was fun."
