SHELTON - Police arrested Jose Santini, 35, and Alejandro Guzman, 42, both of New Haven, around 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 16, and discovered several packages with Shelton addresses inside their truck.

The police responded to a larceny complaint, which reported seeing a green pickup truck park on Meadow Lake Drive.  According to the complainant, the driver exited the vehicle, took a package from the porch of the residence, and then drove off.

Officer Jesse Butwell pulled the pick-up truck over on Meadow St. by William St. and discovered several packages with Shelton addresses inside.  Santini, the driver, was charged with  3 counts of Larceny 6th Degree, 3 counts of Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 6th Degree, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and several motor vehicle charges, while Guzman, the passenger, was charged with 3 counts of Larceny 6th Degree, and 3 counts of Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 6th Degree.

Both are being held on a $10,000 bond and are scheduled to appear at Derby Court on Wednesday, Dec. 16.

Police want to remind people to exercise all safety precautions when having packages delivered, and should try to follow the following guidelines:

  • Request delivery to the store itself and pick up the item there.
  • Have the package delivered to their work address or to the courier's pickup station rather than their home.
  • Schedule delivery for a day that they know they will be home or a relative or friend will be home.
  • Require a signature upon receipt for deliveries.
