Vigil for slain NYPD officers planned for today in Hartford

HARTFORD — Community organizers are planning to gather in Hartford Monday for a vigil in response to the killing of two New York City Police Department officers.

The vigil for Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu is set for noon at Hartford City Hall.

The two were shot point-blank on Saturday in Brooklyn, New York by Ismaaiyl Brinsley, who shot and killed himself.

Funeral plans have been announced for Officer Ramos. His wake is this Friday, the day after Christmas, at Christ Tabernacle Church in Glendale, Queens. Calling hours are from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Officer Ramos’ funeral is Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the same church.

The family of Officer Wenjian Liu is still trying to get relatives to the United States from China before they announce any funeral plans.
