HARTFORD–The capital city’s head lawyer is stepping down from her position.

Mayor Pedro Segarra announced that Saundra Kee Borges is resigning, effective Jan. 30, 2015, from her position as corporation counsel. Borges served as the deputy corporation counsel and then city manager under Mayor Mike Peters, then left in 2002 to open a law firm. She returned in 2010 to serve as corporation counsel.

“I want to personally thank the mayor for having confidence in me and for giving me the opportunity to serve the people of Hartford,” said Borges. “I’m pursuing several opportunities but first look forward to spending some much needed time with my family.”

Segarra announced that current deputy corporation counsel, Henri Alexandre, will serve as acting corporation counsel.

Borges came under fire last year after her city-issued vehicle got into an accident. The issue was that her fiance was driving the car, but only Borges was authorized to operate the 2013 Ford Explorer. Both Borges and her fiance had to be extricated and taken to the hospital, but neither had life-threatening injuries. Borges appologized to the mayor for the incident.
