UPDATE — Authorities are not continuing the search on Saturday because the icy conditions are too dangerous.

NEW HARTFORD — Emergency crews spent Friday at West Hill Lake searching for a missing kayaker.

Crews were initially called to West Hill Lake at 6:20 a.m. on Friday. Officials say a 52-year-old woman went kayaking around 8:30 p.m. Thursday night and never returned. A yellow kayak has been recovered at the site.

After searching all day, official say this is now a recovery mission, not a rescue. The search will not resume Saturday because of icy conditions.

Dive teams and firefighters set up a perimeter in the area of Camp Workcoeman. The Goshen Fire Department air boat helped with the search along with State Police, ENCON, and DEEP. A search and rescue dog was also part of the team looking for the woman. State police used side scan sonar to search the lake as well.
