HARTFORD–On Monday the capital city released its 2014 year-end crime data.

Overall, crime was down 1.6 percent year-over-year, and 8.4 percent since 2011. Only one category saw an increase over the three-year period: the number of larcenies was up 5.8 percent from 2013, and 7.2 percent since 2011.

For violent crimes, the murder rate is down 29.6 percent since 2011 and 17.4 percent year-over-year–there were four fewer homicides in 2014 than in 2013. Non-fatal shootings are down as well; 22.3 percent since 2011.

Aggravated assault also saw a decrease, with 23.9 percent fewer incidents since 2011.

The number of auto thefts in 2014 was a bit higher than in 2013–16.5 percent–but had decreased overall over the three-year period by 12.5 percent. The most commonly stolen vehicles continues to be older models of Hondas and Toyotas.
