Malloy, Bond Commission consider state spending projects

HARTFORD — Governor Dannel Malloy and the State Bond Commission will meet on Monday. The panel and the governor have several items that they will vote on for approval. Here are some of the big ones on the agenda:

  • $57 million to finance 2015 road paving program. It will resurface 200 lane miles and create 2,000 construction jobs
  • $15.4 million to several Department of Housing Projects across the state. This includes affordable housing in Bridgeport, Hartford, East Hartford, New Britain, Portland, Norwalk and Bristol
  • $14 million to Department of Public Health. This includes improvements and equipment purchases as well as buying new land and building 12 new health centers.
  • $2 million to help buy shoreline land called The Preserve, this is the largest unprotected coastal forest and the state’s been working with the Trust for Public Land to save it.
  • $5 million to assist 6 charter schools with capital expenses
  • $2.2 million to create an e-book program for state libraries

The meeting is at 10:30 a.m. at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.
