HARTFORD--Parents in Connecticut spoke out at the state Capitol today for children with disabilities.

Those who spoke testified in front of the disabilities caucus, asking for better resources, facilities and training for staff that work with those who can't always speak for themselves.

"I'm here looking after her needs and trying to make sure she's going to be taken care of," said Velma Williams Estes, a mother in Meriden.

State Sen. Beth Bye, who chairs the disabilities caucus, said that last year's testimony from families led to $4 million extra for the cause.

One of the key platforms at the meeting was for an emergency service around the state, like emergency rooms, that is designed to serve the disabled.
