WESTPORT – Police arrested a teacher from Staples High School for having a sexual relationship with a student.

Theron Kissinger, 44, of Southbury, was charged with two counts of sexual assault in the second degree.

Police got a tip from school officials that a high school student was possibly having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a tutor, who is also a teacher at the school. The investigation confirmed the relationship and that the male suspect was a teacher at the school where the victim was a student.

The two began the relationship after meeting for tutoring session outside of school last year.

Kissinger was released on a $50,000 bond and is due in court on Jan. 23.

Police said the teacher placed on administrative leave.
