WESTPORT – Police arrested a teacher from Staples High School for having a sexual relationship with a student.
Theron Kissinger, 44, of Southbury, was charged with two counts of sexual assault in the second degree.
Police got a tip from school officials that a high school student was possibly having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a tutor, who is also a teacher at the school. The investigation confirmed the relationship and that the male suspect was a teacher at the school where the victim was a student.
The two began the relationship after meeting for tutoring session outside of school last year.
Kissinger was released on a $50,000 bond and is due in court on Jan. 23.
Police said the teacher placed on administrative leave.
