HARTFORD--There's a new "place to create" in town, and it's garnering ideas.
MakeHartford is a public work space where techies and tinkerers can gather and build towards the future. From a basement in an Arbor Street building the ideas are flowing.
"This is a gym for geeks," said MakeHartford co-founder Steve Yanicke. The shared workspace offers members an array of high-tech machines and gadgets to make projects; the technology includes a 3-D printer and vinyl cutter.
"Wether it's students or inventors or someone who wants to do something for their hobby," Yanicke said, "the objective is to have fun and make stuff."
Like a health club, members pay a monthly fee to use the equipment. Margo Hablutzel, a MakeHartford board member, said, "You want to play with fibers or glass or wood or plastic or metal, we've probably got people doing it."
Ben Parker, a club member from Manchester said, "We get to play with all these cool toys, and you can come and get work done."
This weekend MakeHartford will celebrate it's one-year anniversary.
