SIMSBURY – Dr. Martin Luther King spent two summers in Simsbury and it’s believed that it helped shape his views by seeing life in an area without segregation.

The town is proud of its connection to King and the time he spent working in the tobacco field in the area. King spent time here in the 1940s while he was in college. He decided to become a minister while he was working here.

Students in town have produced a documentary on King’s time in town and have raised funds to build a memorial in his name.

Fox CT’s Hidden History looks back at that time in his life.
