Willimantic man assaults officer during arrest

WILLIMANTIC–A man was arrested for assaulting a police officer on Saturday.

Robert James O’Connor, 22, of Willimantic, was arrested after getting into a disturbance with a person he didn’t know when a police corporal found him. O’Connor then choked the officer, who sustained minor injuries.

O’Connor is charged with criminal trespass in the second degree, disorderly conduct, interfering with an officer and assault on an officer. He’s being held on a $20,000 bond and is due in court Jan. 15.
