VERNON -- Travel bans, parking bans; the state and towns laid down the law to try and fight back against the blizzard of 2015.

In Vernon, the town reports their imposed parking ban was a success. Jeff Shambach, a road foreman for Vernon's Public Works Department, said, "The parking ban really helped our crews to remove the the snow without the cars there."

Shambach said snow drifts were among the most challenging obstacles in getting an upper hand against the rapid snowfall. "It's a battle to get the drift plowed back," he said. "You come back a little later and it's drifted back over."

Mike Purcaro, Vernon's director of emergency management, said that the town was up to the task of fighting the estimated foot of snow the town received. "Fortunately ,we have been through this before, we have a lot of good lessons learned."

Purcaro said crews have been working around the clock plowing and salting Vernon's 125 miles of roadway.

Working with just a snow blower, James Boyajian, the owner of Riley's Liquor, spent most of the day out in the elements clearing  the parking lot of his shop. Caked in snow and ice, but still smiling, Boyajian said of his personal snow battle: "Just keep up with it, that's all you can do, you have to stay on top of it."
