NEW LONDON - Blowing and drifting snow is the primary problem in New London. Blowing snow is making visibility very difficult. The Coast Flood Advisory has been cancelled.

Some plows have been seen on the roads so far. Drifts of snow appear approximately two to three feet tall.

The City of New London has opened the Emergency Shelter at the Martin Center. The city recommends anyone at risk for losing power without an alternate power source seek shelter at the center.

The Office of Mayor Finizio reports that the entire New London Public Works Department is working to clear the roads. Here is a message from the Mayor:

City crews have been making good progress in responding to storm but their efforts are now being impeded by motorists who are going out on the roads and getting stuck.

City staff cannot stress enough that all residents should shelter in place and stay off the roads.  By being on the roads you only risk your own safety and slow the City’s response to the storm.  Please continue to follow all instructions disseminated by emergency management personnel.

Travel and parking bans remain in effect in the city.

New London Public Schools and city offices are closed Tuesday.
