HOLLYWOOD – After weeks of auditions around the country, 218 American Idol hopefuls have received a golden ticket and have finally arrived in Hollywood for the next round of American Idol XIV.  Among them, are West Haven native Nick Fradiani and UConn student Jack Dunn.

Starting tonight, Wednesday Feb. 4, the 218 performers will compete in Hollywood week, where only 48 will make it through to the first-ever Showcase round, in which they will perform in front of a live audience at the House of Blues.  This live performance will filter through to the Top 24, who will head to Detroit, MI for this season’s first voting performance. American Idol already gave us a sneak peek at this year’s Top 24:

Do any of those performers look like our two Connecticut contestants? Fingers crossed!

Hollywood week will be done a little differently this year from past years, as our Idol judges, Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and Harry Connick, Jr., will select the contestants they deemed ‘most memorable’ from their initial auditions to perform solos. Those who impress get a pass straight to Group Day, while the remaining contestants will need to sweat it out a bit longer during other performances. Group Day will be Thursday, Feb. 5, when contestants must showcase their collaboration skills in addition to highlighting their own individual vocals in a group number.

Watch American Idol‘s Hollywood week tonight and tomorrow at 8 p.m., and see if our Connecticut contestants have what it takes to make it to the top 48, and their first live performance at the House of Blues!
