MIDDLETOWN – A Middletown woman is facing several charges after police say she bit the pinky finger of another woman during an assault on Sunday.  Police say the bite was so bad the finger had to be amputated. Police arrested Veronica Hernandez, 30 on assault, breach of peace and reckless endangerment charges after a fight where they say she bit the other woman’s finger between the nail and the knuckle.

The two women were involved in a fight, according to police. The victim also received scratches to her face. Police said the victim identified Hernandez as her ex-boyfriend’s girlfriend. The boyfriend is also the father of the victim’s child. The assault occurred during a custody exchange involving the victim’s daughter.

Medical personnel said the bone was bitten through and would require surgery. Hernandez agreed with the details of the fight with the exception she had no idea how the finger was bitten.

She was held on $25,000 bond and scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
