NEW HAVEN – Two men are facing charges after a woman was shot in her thigh back in January. Around 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 31 a 27-year-old woman was shot in her apartment. She told police she returned home to find a white man in her home. As she tried to run away, he chased and shot her.

On Sunday, Feb. 8, New Haven police arrested the suspect believed to have organized that shooting, also the father of the victim’s three children.

At the time of the shooting, the victim’s boyfriend, Terquinten Fulton, 30, of New Haven, was outside in the car, with the three kids. None of them witnessed the shooting. Police say Fulton brought the children to a neighbor’s for safety and called 911.

The shooter has been described as a thin white man in his late twenties.

Detectives worked the case and were suspicious of Fulton.

“During the beginning of the investigation, Fulton was dramatically angry. Sometimes demanding that Detectives focus less on the victim and more on trying to find who’d done this,” police said in a news release.

Then, David Nieman, 25, of New Milford told a woman that he’d recently shot someone in New Haven. The woman called police. Police say Nieman admitted shooting the woman but had a back-story he wanted to tell.

Neiman said he was instructed to shoot the victim as an initiation into a gang. He said the gun was provided by the father of the victim’s three children, all under the age of five years. The continuing interview worried detectives that the victim may have not been the only one Fulton wanted harmed, police continued. Fulton was arrested just after 1 a.m. on Feb. 8.

Nieman, a convicted felon, was charged with assault in the first degree, unlawful discharge of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm, home invasion and conspiracy to commit assault in the first degree and home invasion.

Fulton was charged with conspiracy to commit assault in the first degree and conspiracy to commit home invasion.
