HARTFORD–A tractor-trailer accident closed down I-91 south between exits 29A and 27 for much of the afternoon rush. It reopened around 5:40 p.m.
The flatbed tractor-trailer, which was carrying lumber, overturned just before exit 27 around 2:30 p.m., causing the lumber to spill out. Police say it tipped over because of a combination of the weight of the lumber in the load and the curve the truck was on.
The highway is backed up for several exits and is expected to be closed for six hours or less, according to the Connecticut Department of Transportation. The DOT is asking people to find an alternate route home for the evening commute.
